they/them pronounsHello,
Welcome to Fall 2020! I am very excited to have found my teaching home at Sunnyside Environmental School. This will be my fourth year in the SES community and I continue to learn more about what makes this school so unique. This is my 9th year of teaching, and I am learning a ton as we navigate COVID Distance Learning. I am headed into this year returning as our 4x5 blend teacher. This means that we welcome back our fifth graders who were 4th graders in my room last year. We will also be welcoming new 4th grade students in addition to new fifth grade students. I am absolutely delighted to continue teaching our 5ths, and eager to get to know our new students. Since it's my third year in a blend loop, I will be able to dig deeper and add more creativity to our learning this year now that I have the blend vibe in my step. Fall 2020 marks the start of my 9th year of teaching, and I've also finally rounded the corner into my 30s! I was lucky enough to grow up in Boulder, Colorado, where the Rocky Mountains meet the beautiful prairie. In 2008, I moved to Portland to complete a BA in Psychology at Lewis & Clark College (emphasis on Spanish and Gender Studies). I went on to earn my Master's in Elementary Education from LC's Graduate School of Education. For the five years prior to teaching at SES, I worked with an economically and racially diverse student body in east county. I am a passionate social justice educator and view equity as central to my teaching and personal life. Outside the classroom, I enjoy hiking, reading, boxing, basketball, yard work, advocating for social justice, playing drums, and traveling. Below you will find some of my favorite nature spots, both near and far around the world. I'm looking forward to the year ahead teaching and learning from our classroom community. |
